In the Press
For LaMara Davidson, becoming a professional chef was a happy accident. As the daughter of an African American serviceman and a Korean émigré mother, LaMara grew up eating a blend of soul food and Korean food that has become her signature cooking style. She calls it “Seoul food.”

“My breakfast habits have definitely changed during the pandemic simply because like most people, I now have more time in the mornings. Before, I rarely ate breakfast. Being a chef, we often feed everyone else first and then grab food on the go where we can or snack when we’re recipe testing. It’s the most ironic part of being a chef, not sitting down for meals ourselves.
— Huffington Post
The most significant lesson the Cornbread & Kimchi™ founder learned from her mom about food that has remained with her is the importance of using one’s hands. “We made kimchi together a couple of years ago and every time she needed to add chili and salt sugar, I poured it in her hands over the bowl,” she says. “We put our hearts into the food we share with others, but I didn’t fully understand how our hands were the most important tools. Knives and spoons can’t feed the soul. It’s our hands that are our most prized possessions.”

“What a pleasant surprise, Ritz Carlton Golf is hosting a Pop-Up restaurant with their Artisan in Residence series, CORNBREAD and KIMCHI, need I say more? Innovative and experienced, Chef Lamara Davidson has brought her A-game to the table, literally. A Southern and Asian-inspired menu provides a unique yet nostalgic list of menu options. Fried green tomatoes, chicken, and kimchi scallion dumplings were amazing!! With options like Korean fried chicken and grilled Korean-style short ribs, it made my choice of Miso Glazed Grouper, with traditional Korean accompaniments, a difficult but really tasty one. Do not forget the cornbread with pineapple butter oh my lord, that was good.”
